From the Principal

Dear families

It is certainly a busy time around CMS at the moment, with students working hard on their assessment pieces in which they will demonstrate the skills and knowledge that they have developed over the year. Teachers are assessing student learning and are starting to write reports. We will send reports home in the mail on Wednesday 11th December.

On top of this, we are developing our plans for the school in 2020. Enrolments are steadily flowing in which is allowing us to work out how many classes we will have next year. We will have all of the Year 6s that will be attending CMS next year come over for an Orientation Day on Friday 29th November. If you have or know of a young person who is yet to enrol for next year, please ask them to get in touch with the school ASAP.

We are also busily recruiting staff for next year. We have already recruited a number of new staff to the school and just have to finalise one or two positions. We are going to have another great team of teachers at CMS next year.

Our 2019 Presentation Night which will be held on Tuesday 3rd December. This is our premiere event that focuses on celebrating the achievements of our students across the year. We invite all students, families and community members to attend. It will be held at the Convention Centre. We ask people to arrive at 5.45pm so that the event can commence at 6.00pm. We hope you can join us for this important event.

With thanks

School news and updates

Uniforms

We loan uniforms to students who come in to school without the correct uniform on. Students who have swapped their clothes for a loan uniform MUST bring the uniform or payment back in order to get their clothes back. If the uniform hasn’t been returned by the end of this term, their clothes will be donated to Vinnies.

Please bring any loaned uniform items back as soon as possible.

Clontarf Corner

After school Basketball

As weeks three and four come to an end it was another fun filled busy couple of weeks for our Clontarf boys and staff. Tuesday saw the CMS Titans take on the Yirara Brumbies in a game of basketball. There was a lot of talent on show with great sportsmanship and Clontarf spirit, and although the game came to a draw the boys were still happy with the result.

Coles Employment Visit

During contact time our Year 9 boys visited Coles for an exciting employment visit. Our fellas met the store managers, Ray and Helen, who provided a tour and much valued understanding of the store and the various types of positions available. The visit was all tied together with the consistent message of the importance of education and working hard in school. A huge thank you to Ray and Helen for taking the time to show the boys around. We hope that perhaps one day one of our students will represent the Academy, our school, and make their families proud in a Cole’s uniform.

Year 7/8 Well-being Leadership camp

With the end of 2019 fast approaching, a small group of Year 7 and 8 students were treated to a two day camp from Alice Springs to Trephina Gorge. We selected these students based on their school attendance, engagement in both the school and Clontarf and for being genuinely good all around.

During the first part of the camp the group visited the Alice Springs Reptile Centre and was treated to a private viewing with the snakes and lizards from around the NT. The reptile handler went through some basic techniques when confronted with a snake as well as first aid for snake bites.

The fellas had an opportunity to hold some of the reptiles, a few were a bit nervous but Tracyn Forrester shot his hand straight up when he was given the chance. After the amazing show that the centre put on we got to see other reptiles, from small thorny devils to Terry the crocodile, the Reptile Centre did surely not disappoint. We finished the day with a few games around the academy room and a nice serving of spaghetti bolognese, cooked by Luke Orr and Billy Atkinson followed by the latest Aladdin Movie before bed.

After an early start the next day and some pancakes for breakfast, we headed to the beautiful Trephina Gorge. The fellas got to trek along the top of the gorge then back down through it. The amazing views and the historical Aboriginal rock art, made for a pleasant morning hike. The afternoon was capped off with a swim at the MacDonnell Range holiday park and a barbeque lunch before heading home.
