Principal's Blog...

8th May, 2012

The past month has been full of activity; April has seen expos, assemblies, excursions and camps.

Last week, our Reboot 2012 fellas were in Melbourne collecting pre-loved footy boots to recycle out at remote communities. They have done a great job and we wish them the best of luck in the remainder of their travels.

CMS turned into a hub of information at the Health Expo, with 26 agencies in attendance it sure was a beneficial afternoon for all involved and I thank Mrs. Barbara Glover for organising the Health Expo for the 2nd year in a row.

I was extremely proud to see all of our students paying their respects to diggers past and present at our ANZAC Day assembly. My sincere thanks goes to our guest speaker, Mr Luke Ross for sharing his experiences with us.

Our new school hoodies have arrived and are selling like hotcakes. Already stocks are in limited supply and at only $10 each, how could they not be?

3rd April, 2012

Hello,

It seems that the year is already getting away from us and we have much to report on.

Our first School Council AGM was held on March 8th, it was extremely productive and I welcome our new Council Chair, Mrs Brenda Liemandt. I would like to thank Lynn Barnes for her dedication and support of our school as our School Council Chairperson over the past year.

It was great to get down to the pool and watch our CMS teams thrash it out. There were some great displays of team pride in the form of colours and costumes and the students really enjoyed themselves. The winning team of the day was, aptly, Water; congratulations to the Captains, Seikura Ford and Mitchell Couchman  for a great effort and a successful day.

We celebrated Harmony Day on March 21st with a plethora of activities and delights from around the world. Thanks to all staff who made this possible.

Our library was transformed into a community hub for the 2012 CLIC Festival where schools from around Alice Springs were given the chance to learn from award winning authors and illustrators. On Sunday, the public was also invited to take part in the fascinating workshops and it was well-received with over  500  people passing through our doors.

24th February, 2012

Welcome to all our new families and students and our enrollment is now 443 students.

We welcome new staff to CMS as we have grown. Ms Carly Phillips and Gavin Nolan in the year 7 team, Mr Stuart Brundson in the Year 8 team and  Lorna Parker and Ben Wilson in the year 9 team. We also welcome Ms Emmalene Ford as Specialist Teacher Middle Years Curriculum, Mr Matt Skoss, Specialist Teacher Information Communications Technology (ICT) and Ms Cassie O’Bree as Teaching and Learning Coach.

Mrs Donna Obrien is also now our Assistant Principal Wellbeing. I look forward to the enormous experience and enthusiasm that these teachers bring to our team and the contribution that they will make to the lives of the children in our care.

The focus at CMS is to providing the very best teaching and learning and we have formed a team of staff who will work with staff as coaches and mentors to support best practice in teaching, assessment and student engagement. The aim of this team is to transform teaching and learning at CMS and to assist us on our journey to be the Middle School of choice in Alice Springs.

2012 promises to be a year of change and I look forward to the journey ahead.
